Myself and violinist Anne Marie Kirby have been great friends for years. This album was the antidote to NEMO as I moved to Berlin. Some of the songs were written as early as 1998. Return of the Heart, ...and Finally, Face to Face, Uncover Me and Taking on The World were written in a shared maisonette on Caledonian Rd, near Kings Cross. Other songs such as Selling ideas, The Calming Pain and Bedsit Alone were songs I had written when I first moved to London. We composed Circus of Our Lives and Diamond Cuts together in 2007 before I left for Berlin. Some of the string arrangements were recorded in DeepSeeStudios London and the rest of the album was finished in Gordon Raphael's studio in Berlin during my first winter there in 2008/9.
